Bing Image Widget Now Offline After Getty Images Lawsuit

The Bing Image Widget that launched on August 22nd is now temporarily offline after Getty Images sued Microsoft over the feature.

If you try to access the tool, you will be presented with a notice that the “Image Widget” has been “temporarily removed the beta.” Here is a picture:

Getty Imaged filed a lawsuit against Microsoft over the feature a couple weeks after it launched, citing “massive infringement.” It seems within 24-hours, Microsoft pulled the feature offline.

For those who have already implemented the embed code on their site, such as we did as a test, it still does seem to work.

A Microsoft spokesperson told Recode.net, “We have temporarily removed the Bing Image Widget beta so we can take time to talk with Getty Images and better understand its concerns.”
